JICA Celebrates the Success of B-JET and B-MEET Programs
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with the University of Miyazaki and North South University (NSU), hosted an event to publish the concluding report of the B-JET and B-MEET programs. The ceremony, held yesterday (December 17) at the Syndicate Hall of North South University, celebrated the programs' achievements in equipping ICT professionals with Japanese language skills and fostering bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
The Bangladesh-Japan ICT Engineers Training Program (B-JET) was launched in 2017 under JICA's technical cooperation with the Bangladesh Computer Council. The program offers an eight-month training course focused on Japanese language, culture, and business etiquette for young Bangladeshi ICT engineers. It prepares them to excel in Japan's competitive ICT sector. To date, over 240 B-JET graduates have successfully started their careers in Japan, helping address the country's shortage of skilled ICT engineers.
The Bangladesh-Miyazaki ICT Engineers Educational Training Project (B-MEET), launched in 2022 under JICA's technical cooperation, provides a one-month training program for university students and professionals. The program focuses on Japanese language, culture, and business etiquette, aiming to support those aspiring to work in Japanese ICT firms. Approximately 300 participants have completed the program so far.
The event marked the conclusion of the current phases of these programs, which are implemented by the University of Miyazaki and North South University. Speaking at the event, JICA Bangladesh Chief Representative Ichiguchi Tomohide said, “The B-JET and B-MEET programs symbolize the strong partnership between Bangladesh and Japan. By advancing human resource development and strengthening cultural ties, these initiatives empower Bangladeshi ICT engineers and contribute to Japan's technological progress. We are proud of their role in fostering global skills development and joint prosperity.”
Dignitaries attending the ceremony included H.E. Iwama Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh; Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh; Nagayama Hidenari, Vice Mayor of Miyazaki City; Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of North South University; and Yoshinari Yasue, Vice President of the University of Miyazaki, among other esteemed guests.
The programs, along with their implementing organizations—jointly recognized as the "Miyazaki-Bangladesh Model"—were honored with JICA's International Cooperation Award this year for their contributions to human resource development in Bangladesh and Japan.
